The roar of the crowd, the clink of metal wheels against the smooth skateboard surface. For professional skateboard legend Tony Hawk, these sounds are part of his passion – “If they are a really loud crowd, that will get me more hyped and I will actually try harder stuff, stuff that maybe is a little more risky.”
Hawk chose to join the Starkey Hearing Foundation this year in Cambodia to bring this gift of hearing to children and adults – so they can know the sounds that motivate and encourage him in his work, either skateboarding or giving back to the community. Sometimes in charity work, it may be hard to see the difference you are making, but when you are out in the community fitting hearing aids as Hawk says – “right there you see it.. this person is hearing for the first time, or hearing properly for the first time.”
This year, the Starkey Hearing Foundation celebrates 30 years. Three decades of volunteers, staff, physicians and educators who love their work – who change people’s lives and allow others to hear who and what they love. All of us at Sound Choice are proud to be part of this mission! We invite you to come meet us, to come learn more about your hearing, common questions about hearing aids or hearing loss that may be impacting your daily life and the things you love.
