On July 26 in St. Paul Minnesota, Starkey Hearing Foundation held their annual awards Gala, honoring those who support and work for “So The World May Hear” mission. President George W. Bush was honored for his work with Starkey including a trip to Tanzania in 2013 to hand out hearing aids on the Foundation’s behalf.
Katy Perry, whose appearance at the Gala is her only U.S. performance this year, headlined the entertainment for the Gala, where single seats where at minimum $1,500. Other entertainers included 2CELLOS, Matt Nathanson and Jessica Sanchez.
The Gala is the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and in 2014 raised almost $9 million for its philanthropic efforts.
Each year, the Foundation gives out more than 175,000 hearing aids to those in third world countries who otherwise would not have the opportunity to receive the gift of hearing. On the missions the Foundation doesn’t just hand out hearing aids; they identify and train community-based health workers so they can provide hearing aid support and other community services once the Starkey team has left.
Locally, the “Hear Now” program provides hearing aids and hearing help for low-income Americans.
Other Honorees at the Gala included Delta Zeta Sorority and the organization No Limits. Learn more about the work of the Starkey Hearing Foundation and receive updates on this year’s Gala.
